C-MEM™ Ultrafiltration Technology

The C-MEM™ technology from SFC Umwelttechnik offers an advanced solution for the treatment and disinfection of drinking water, gray water, and service water.

This innovative ultrafiltration technology through micropores helps provide clean and safe water worldwide, thus sustainably improving the lives of many people.

C-MEM Functionality

The C-MEM™ technology uses micropores (average pore size 201 nm – sterile filtration) made of drinking water-grade HDPE in 0.3-0.5 mm wide hollow fibers to remove contaminants from the water. These hollow fibers, bundled in cartridges, only allow clean water to penetrate their interior. Bacteria, viruses, and other solid particles are retained on the outside of the fibers. This produces drinking water free from pathogens and with a neutral taste. The C-MEM™ technology replaces conventional techniques in just one step and achieves far better effluent values. C-MEM™ is an ideal pre-treatment for UV systems that cannot sufficiently disinfect water with high turbidity.

The C-MEM™ technology can be used in various areas, including central drinking water treatment from river, lake, spring, and rainwater. It is also excellent for decentralized water filtration in remote areas without electricity, on campsites, and during expeditions. Additionally, it supports aid workers in disaster areas and can be used to treat swimming and fish ponds as well as service water.

What Makes C-MEM™ Unique

The C-MEM™ ultrafiltration offers numerous advantages over conventional methods. The technology achieves a high separation of bacteria and viruses, independent of their type and life form (104 – 107-fold reduction). This physical barrier prevents pathogens from entering the drinking water. Unlike conventional flocculation, sedimentation, and sand filtration, the C-MEM™ system is more compact and efficient. There are no by-products or odor emissions, and the resulting drinking water is colorless and odorless.

The C-MEM™ membranes have a long lifespan and can be easily and inexpensively replaced. The materials used are suitable for drinking water, and the fully recyclable design allows easy replacement of components without needing to replace the entire system. In drinking water treatment, C-MEM™ operates under pressure (outside-in operation) with up to 3 bar transmembrane pressure. The technology is also available in a Gravity Driven Membrane (GDM) version that operates without electricity, making it ideal for use in remote villages, expeditions, or disaster areas. This allows the provision of clean water in regions that are otherwise difficult to access.

The C-MEM™ technology from SFC Umwelttechnik is a groundbreaking solution for drinking water treatment. It not only offers an effective and reliable method for removing contaminants but also improves the quality of life for people worldwide.
