Since 2019, the Dutch energy provider Eneco has been operating an MBBR plant in Utrecht for the treatment of biomass condensate wastewater. SFC Umwelttechnik GmbH was responsible for the design of the MBBR reactor and supplied the process-specific equipment and functional design specifications of the plant control. Initially designed to treat 197 m³ of condensate per day from the flue gas cleaning in the biomass power plant, the plant was expanded with a second line in the same year. Now, an additional 216 m³ of condensate per day can be treated, significantly increasing the plant’s capacity. A total of two bioreactors are in operation, which have been successfully running since 2019. This project demonstrates the efficiency and scalability of MBBR technology in industrial applications.
