Together with its Austrian partner company SETEC Engineering GmbH & Co.KG SFC Umwelttechnik GmbH will deliver hardware and software for GIS-systems and hydraulic water network modelling as well as water meters and equipment for leak detection to Ghana Water Company Limited GWCL, a state-owned utility, which is responsible for drinking water supply in Ghana, in order to reduce the drinking water loss due to – among others – missing data and an outdated piping network in the regions Accra, Tema, Cape Coast, Takoradi, Kumasi, Ho, Sunyani, Koforidua, Tamale and Bolgatanga. Currently, GWCL operates 88 water supply systems all over the country. However, the average water production (ca. 870,000 m³d) is considerably lower than the actual demand (ca. 1.2 m m³/d).
The implementation of the project will provide GWCL with a complete spatial data asset register of all regions mentioned, which may be used for future design, engineering, operation, central monitoring and visual management in order to optimize its water supply.
