As in previous years SFC Umwelttechnik GmbH also participated in this year´s SEEGEN operator experience exchange, which took place in Bad Hofgastein from March 27 – 28, 2019.
C-MEM specialist Dr. Simon Jabornig presented SFCU´s C-MEM ultrafiltration technology for the treatment of flue gas condensate in biomass heating plants.
The technology is already applied successfully in several biomass heating plants, among them the Austrian plants Holzwärme Flachau, Pfeifer Kundl and RZ Klagenfurt.
This year another plant was started up i.e. in the biomass heating plant of the Dutch energy supplier Eneco in Utrecht. In the course of the year a second line will be implemented there in addition.
In combination with a biofilm reactor C-MEM separates ashes and other dissolved substances from the condensate wastewater so that it can be discharged directly. And by heat recovery considerable costs can be saved e.g. in Flachau 300,000 kWh were recovered within 3 years (2014 – 2016) and wastewater charges for more than 20,000 m³ were saved, which means a total saving of ca. 100,000 EUR.
Franz Kaml, Managing Director of Holzwärme Flachau, explains in detail: “Our concept was a complete success. Through the interaction of all optimisation measures, our biomass heating plant can currently be described as an absolute showcase project in terms of energy efficiency and the use of resources. I am convinced that we have the best technical standard currently available”. (Klima – Kälte – Lüftung 2015).
